Drug Detection AU offers a hair testing service which can detect a longer period of drug use. Traditional tests (Oral fluid and urine) have a finite window of detection while the drug or drug metabolites remain in the system. With hair, drug or drug metabolite is deposited to the hair shaft and remains present for the life of the hair. The only limitation on the window of detection is imposed by the length of the donor’s hair.
This makes hair testing ideal for identifying long term or past drug use. Hair testing is often used for court custody, rehabilitation and executive level employment testing. Each 10-12mm of head hair provides a 30-day history of drug use. A standard test covers an approximate 90-day window of detection and requires approximately 3.9cm of head hair. If no head hair is available, body hair can be used but this extends the window of detection to approx. 12 months.
Bleaches, shampoos and external contaminants (e.g. cannabis smoke) have no impact on test results. Drug Detection AU uses local and international laboratories for its hair testing depending on client requirements. Results are usually available in 7-14 business days depending on the test required.
Hair samples can be collected at any workplace location, donor’s home or our office at Woolloongabba.
